Testing Environment

Equipment: The equipment used to perform en-vivo testing are Thor Labs PM 16-120 USB power meter, Thor labs software associated with hardware, Theradome PRO LH80 device and iRestore device and temperature sensor.

Testing Environment: All experiments are done at an optimal room temperature of 65 degrees Fahrenheit.
Testing Setup: USB power meter is placed inside the helmets underneath one laser and treatments are continued as usual. Optical output and other
measurements are taken during the experiment setup.

1. Optical output power

The optical power output of one laser for Theradome and iRestore.

Observation: As results shown, the optical output of the Theradome is more than the iRestore optical output.

2. Theradome Time vs Rise in temperature w/ and w/o the lasers

  • The below graph represents the temperature rise in the scalp area underneath the device with and with out the lasers on.
  • The blue line is the temperature rise with out the lasers on and orange-red line represents temperature rise with the lasers on during the treatment session.

Observation: The temperature rise started from 65 degrees and raised to 92.5 degree with out the lasers. Where as with the lasers, temperature raised to 94 degree during the treatment session. We can note here, that Theradome temperature did not raise significantly and the change is only about a 1.5 degree Fahrenheit. Please note that the human scalp temperature is around 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit on its surface so the ambient will increase to the body temperature from a room temperature of about 65 degrees Fahrenheit.

3. iRestore Time vs Rise in temperature w/ and w/o the lasers

  • The below graph represents the temperature rise in the scalp area underneath the device with and with out the lasers on.
  • The blue line is the temperature rise with the lasers on and orange-red line represents temperature rise with out the lasers on.

Observation: The temperature rise started from 65 degrees and raised to 87.5 degree with out the lasers. Where as with the lasers, temperature raised to 102 degree during the treatment session. We can note here, that iRestore temperature raised significantly for 14.5 degrees.

Optical output vs Temperature

  • The below graph represents the optical output change during the treatment session with iRestore and Theradome.
  • The green line is the optical output change for iRestore and gray line is the same for Theradome.

Observation: The optical output started at 4.9 mW for Theradome and dropped to 4.4 mW by the end of treatment session. Where as for iRestore, the optical output started at 3.2 mW and dropped significantly to 2.0 mW. With this change, there is a significant loss of energy delivered by iRestore on whole.

4. Energy delivered

The below calculations shows the difference between energy delivered for both iRestore and Theradome.
Total Energy Absorbed = Total Power x Time
• Theradome: (80 x 0.00499) x 20 x 60 = 479.04 J
• iRestore: (21 x 0.00325) x 25 x 60 = 102.3 J

Observation:

  • The total energy is calculated by multiplying total power and duration of a treatment session. As we can note that Theradome delivers more energy in a 20 minute session than iRestore.
  • At 20-minute mark, Theradome is powerful 5.9x times more than iRestore and at the end of the treatment session, Theradome is powerful 4.9x times more than iRestore.
  • Hence, the more energy delivered is proportional to more hair growth and scalp stimulation.
